I have always loved animals ever since I was a kid. I was never allowed to have any pets until I have moved out and went on to college. My first pet was a chinchilla. These fuzzy little creatures are so cute, especially when they are bathing in the dust. A year after I graduated from college, I was finally able to get a puppy, a German Shepherd Dog, and later a Pom-Chi puppy! Being around my dog, it further reinforced my love for animals.
Medicine has always been part of my life, probably because of my dad who is a human physician. There is a part of me that wanted to follow his footstep, though I was not keen on working with human biological samples. Throughout college, I had always wanted to become an oncology researcher. I continued on to graduate school but later discovered that it was not for me. It was then a revelation came to combine animals and medicine together, and voilà veterinary medicine! And you know what? This is the one single profession that I can help animals to be healthy companions, challenge myself on a daily basis, and still love my job when I am 60 years old!
Oh one last thing, I do bleed orange and blue, GO ILLINI!
Pets:
Fa – an 8-years-old female German Shepherd Dog I acquired when I was in my 1st year of graduate school
Purranha – a 4-years-old male Domestic-Shorthaired cat I adopted when I was in 2nd year of veterinary school.
