HOSPITALIZATION
We
have a centrally located Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at River
Heights Veterinary Clinic. A group of skilled veterinary technicians
routinely care for 4 - 8 pets each day. These pets are receiving
fluids, antibiotics, nutritional therapy and chemotherapy.
Oxygen therapy, blood transfusions, pain management, and blood
pressure monitoring are other procedures this area is used
for.
Each
patient has his or her own ICU sheet attached to his or her
cage. This sheet and their medical record detail the necessary
treatments or diagnostic tests scheduled for that day.
Our
doctor staff meets daily for case rounds. At this time each
patient's progress is evaluated, diagnosis discussed and ideas
shared to insure we are all up to date in the event questions
arise later that day.
Our
technician staff is a group of compassionate individuals who
enjoy the nursing care they provide to our patients. Their
special attention will alert the doctor staff to changes (good
or bad) that affect the therapy the patients are receiving.
We
also have an isolation facility in the building. Patients
admitted into isolation remain there until they are released.
This ward is stocked with protective clothing, gloves, and
disinfectant to prevent the spread of disease.
If
interested please ask for a tour. We want you to feel comfortable
about where your pet is staying in the event of an illness.
