The
Fish Hook Story

Carmel may have felt
left out when the kids were practicing casting a fishing pole.
Carmel jumped out and swallowed the fishhook and line. The owner
cut the line and brought Carmel into the clinic.
An x-ray showed the
hook to be located in the Carmel's stomach.
We elected to use
a flexible endoscope to retrieve the hook. This scope allows
us to biopsy or retrieve foreign objects with out exploratory
surgery.

We anesthetized Carmel
and used and endoscope to retrieve the hook. A three prong grasping
forceps was positioned over the hook and gently removed from
the stomach, up the esophagus.
