Our Family pets were always a big part of my life growing up. But one childhood dog in particular stands out. And the bond we shared remains with me long after she is gone. She was the kind of dog every child should have, faithful and kind, with unconditional love. She always knew the right moment to rest her head on my knee when the day had been rough. It is this type of relationship that I enjoy witnessing every day with each person and pet who come into the hospital.
Although science and animals were always strong interests of mine, I didn’t decide to become a veterinarian until college. It was during that time that I worked on a farm, volunteered at a zoo, and spent time in various hospitals. And although helping deliver my first calf and having the chance to come face to face with an Asian elephant were amazing experiences, it was working in a small animal practice during school that clinched it for me. Even after long days of classes and studying, I still found that I looked forward to going to work. Whether I was caring for hospitalized patients, talking to clients, or observing surgery, I enjoyed every moment. The daily intrigue and unique challenges of veterinary medicine as well as the personal bonds we can build make this profession so rewarding.
Pets:
My two cats rule the house. Divot, my personal shadow, is quiet and reserved. While his sister Mona keeps me entertained with her mischievous nature and crazy antics.
